Last updated, 40 weeks ago?

Ye gods.

Ah, well. I blame College, pure and simple.

Things are really going well for me. I'm almost out of the TLP, and really digging my camera. It may be a point-and-shoot by technical standards, but it tries its best to be an SLR with a really good lens. The only place it falls short of the true SLR standard is 1 - you can't swap the lenses out, and 2 - the noise levels are a lot higher than what you'd find on an SLR.

Aside from that, it is in every essence an SLR camera. The higher-level FujiFilm Finepix's are true SLRs that professionals use. I was very happy to spot one in the hands of a hired photographer when I was at my cousin's wedding a few weeks ago. :)

(And yes, I know the old line about using hemingways' typewriter. I'm bragging about making a good buy, not being a good photographer. I'm bragging about that next. ;) )

I did get some really good shots though. My uncle steve blew everybody away (even the hired pro's shots weren't as good as his), but I still made a good show. The bride was very very pleased, so that's always good. :)

Aside from that... I'm really just taking life as it comes right now. Very relaxed and content, which I'm really digging - rare emotions, both, if you know me. ;)

Anyhow. I'll see you later. :)

Merlin

By the pricking in my thumbs...

Something wicked this way comes!

I better get some buffy, Zoe'll be here any minute. ;)

Things are going okay for the most part. Just got back from my first hockey game. Much more interesting to watch than Baseball I've found, although the fans are much rowdier, which was the cause for some concern.

Aside from that, the finest part of the night was the ride home. The City at Night is something deeply beautiful to me, and it always gets me in a romantic mood. Point of fact, it's the most romantic thing I know of. It's just mesmerizing, comforting, and seductive. All at once. The perfect backdrop for an evening together just walking along in the glow of the lights, arms draped across each other.

You can see what it does to me if I'm able to jot that off without thinking.

Later,

Merlin

Growling over something.

Okay. So. I was over at Phoenix library, reading "Six Questions of Socrates." The section asking "What is Justice?" They were holding it in Mexico City. Asking 'what is justice?' in a third-world city can lead to some interesting perspectives.

On that note, given the state of things over there both with living and legal rights, it's comperable to the Taliban. Makes you wonder why we invaded Iraq and not Mexico.

Then again, maybe the answer is obvious. But I can't say for sure. It would be a rather perverse joke to speak about justice, then pass judgement based on a collection of superficial facts, now wouldn't it?

The thing that bugged me enough to actually sit down and write a blog post was some of the insightful comments they had about the 9/11 victim's fund. So, if I can talk over the political atomic bombs being thrown my way for this, the thing that gets me is something that came up in my grief group - you don't set up a 'pecking order' of grief. A loss is a loss. It's devastating, world-changing, and an emotional attack.

Which is why just throwing money at the problem strikes me as superficial, insulting, maybe even malevolent. At the very least, it reinforces the 'slide down the surface' way our culture deals with loss, pain, grief, and life in general. Have a problem? Have a cookie. Marriage failing? Buy a car. Can't talk with your friends? CALL YOUR MOTHER. It's sick.

Oh, and on that tangent... Zoo TV lives.

http://thesuperficial.com/submit.php

Enjoy,

Merlin

I should say something here, I suspect.

Now comes the hard part.

What?

I strongly suspect I've placed myself back in that stone castle I was just thinking about extracting myself from.

"None of this really matters anymore..."

Hm. Maybe that should be my new motto.

NIN is something else.

Merlin

I'm ready...

Ready for the laughing gas...

That's right, ladies, gentleman, and bitches. ZooTV. Not only is the Sydney show available on DVD, the Outside Broadcast is on YouTube.

Observe.

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Zoo+TV+Television+Special

Grab the firefox extention and download this baby. It's utterly spectacular. Some of the takes on this are better than Sydney. The TV broadcast medium let the band take ZooTV to it's ultimate peak - a blend of live show and studio edits that blur the line between both.

A must, must, must see. Even if you don't like the bug-eyed glasses period. This will change your mind. ;)

EVERYTHING YOU KNOW IS WRONG.

Merlin

'Got enough guilt to start my own relgion...'

Gotta love Tori Amos. Especially if you are a rather vindictive masochist at times.

In that vein, this is my new favorite line:

"God, sometimes you just don't come through
God, sometimes you just don't come through
Do you need a woman to look after you?"

Hell yeah. *grin* I just love that line. Hell, I love the whole song. It's just so vicious, intimately vindictive... and yet so damned true.

Watch the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6zJ3Bf6x38&mode=related&search=

It rocks.
Ripe...

Yes, listening to the last song off 'The Fragile.' It's just soooo much fun to listen to. So very alien and threatening... yet inviting and comforting. Nameless, faceless, just present. Calm... turbulant... silent.

Just as death's embrace should be.

Okay. Enough of me slobbering praise on my favorite band.

Today, I dropped off about five applications, and found three more places that do online apps. I keep being told that I'm *bound* to get someone calling me back.

I sure hope so. I want money.

In other news, my bossy, bratty little sister(yes, you) is bullying me into blogging. So now the secret is out.

Just kidding, doll. ;) I love you.

Still writing... kinda. What else are you going to do with the disgusting ammount of free time I have? lol.

Good news is the places I applied at are cool. So it's not like I'll be slumming.

Today, my apartment. Tomorrow, THE WORLD! MWAHAHAHAHA!

Well. After lunch.

Merlin

frustration.

Ever have one of those days where you're just fed up?

I'm stuck there, somewhat. I'm just so fucking sick and tired of having to steal time to use a computer. A worthless, crippled computer, to boot!

Honestly. I want gentoo back. I'm sick of this windows shit. My computer. My choice of OS. My own space to use it.

Now would be nice... *sigh*

Merlin

*thwack*

Yes, bitches. I'm dragging out the chains and whips.(down, zoe!).

Not really. But I am in a mood where tight leather would be nice. I need to vent some aggression.

Does it count if you're using it to strangle someone? Or several someone?

Hmm. The fun of fantasy.

I'm also going to try and write here more often. I'm tired of having so many f'n blogs and never posting to a single one of them.

In other news, I took a little mountain hike/climb today. Got a nice scrape on my knee and leg for it, but hell. I loved it.

I may be turning into a masochist. My only question now is - is it Zoe, or Phoenix rubbing off on me?

Maybe I was this twisted/kinky to begin with. *evil grin*

I walk a lot... I've walked four miles at the droop of a hat. My shoes are quite worn now, and I only got them two months ago.

I'm damn proud of that. Really. I get deeply fulfilled by looking at all the scuff marks on my nice, white/orange(only color they had in my size :( ) shoes.

Merlin
